You write: "My process is to import the pictures to my camera software."
This may be the cause for the slow process.
Either import directly into Lr from camera, or if you don't want to do this, import to hard drive using your OS and then import into Lr.
Your cameras software probably does something to your image files that Lr has a hard time decoding.
And what is the purpose of importing "the pictures to my camera software" before importing into Lr? I can see no benefit in doing this.
Everything your camera software does will be completely ignored by Lr.
