I’ve been looking to use LR4.3 Book Module to produce a book and send it to Blurb for printing.
Belatedly, I have a few queries.
- What do I have do or not do to give me the best chance of a LR4/Blurb printed book looking like it does in my LR4 Book Module (a min of Blurb & LR4 colours matching) ?
- Is the Book Module/Blurb Printing is something that is no longer being promoted by Blurb or Adobe?
There’s very little about it and even the Adobe Lightroom link on Blurb Homepage drop-down menu to doesn’t work, (it’s the only one of the 43 options in the 6 dropdowns on the menu bar that doesn’t). - If I use Export to PDF where can I get the PDF file?
As I understand that Adobe output a PDF in a format that is not processable by Blurb (I know, I know, it’s unbelievable, but that’s Adobe for you – always doing the unbelievable) - What alternatives could you recommend to using Lightroom to produce a Book are there that.
I’ve been through the Kelby & the Adobe JKost tutorials and was subsequently keen to try the Book module out and print a professional looking book via Blurb. It’s so quick and easy to do! So I started and then with the book formatted/laid out with around 200 photos & 85 pages I suddenly started to wonder about the actual Blurb print and how I’d know it was OK before I paid for it. And of course you can’t – “you pays your money & takes your chances” as the saying goes. Stupid of me –I should have checked this out before I started.
Anyway, the little about this that I have found on the internet was posted mostly last summer or earlier and tends to suggest a very hit & miss process where the Blurb output result often does not match with the LR Book e.g. colours don’t match & in some cases are way out. This appears to be something you can only find out for sure by actually paying up front. Very expensive if you got a lot of pages or want to purchase multiple copies. The only suggested work-a-round that I’ve found is to send(& pay for of course) a cut down version of your book (a proof I suppose you’d call it) to see what results are like and if OK to send (& pay for) the full book to be printed. All adds to the cost.
Also there are many suggestions that results are far superior, more verifiable, i.e. less variance with what you expect to get, e.g. colour fidelity, using other software (e.g. CS or Blurb software) rather than using Lightroom.
Many Thanks.
