Thank you Jim and Rikk.....
I had a stack and didn't realize it since I don't use those very much. I sent an image from LR to PS and then after saving it, I made a virtual copy in LR. I now see that the three versions are a stack. I also now see the little stacking icon -- two thin vertical lines near the frame edge.
