Some further exploration of the documentation revealed that "Applying adjustments in the Develop module: Basic workflow" in the "The Lightroom workflow" section is what I was expecting here. I think a better title of this section would be "Develop module feature overview" because it goes into all the features of the Develop module. I also think that a note such as "for an overview of the Develop module workflow, go to the Applying adjustments in the Develop module: Basic workflow section" and put a link to that section.
