Thanks for the explanation…this would apply to DNG, TIFF, JPEG and PSD files, correct? It would not apply to proprietary raw files since the .xmp file is a side car file, correct? And, if you did NOT write xmp into DNG, TIFF, JPEG or PSDs, then any image corruption would not be the result of corruption caused by LR, correct?

 

My appologies for claming Rob was wrong about the potential for faulty ram (or any potential hardware faults) causing image corruption due to writing xmp metadata back into image files...
