Agree that the Metadata Panel hasn't changed in that regard, but the Info Overlay (in View Options) certainly has changed. LR3 And LR4:

I just looke at Julieanne Kost's blo. What she talks about is the view option.In Library go >View > View Options >Loupe View tab. There is an option for showing <File Name and Copy Name>.
